Do I have to call it a resolution?

I have decided not to call my resolution a resolution... Instead I will be "working" on serval areas of my life, home and family. I am one of those people that when you call it a resolution for some reason I can not stick to it just can't don't know why!

Instead I will just be "working" in general on myself, our family and my home. For sometime now these things have taken second place to other areas of my life. I will also be striving to be a Proverbs 31 woman. So it is back to us and I am proud of myself for being able to realize that is what is needed. I want to be a better more efficient wife and mother. My journey may seem easy to most of you but I am stuck in my ways. And it will be a harder change for me than anyone else. But I am serious about taking our lives, calenders, so on and so fourth back.

Somethings that I am looking forward to change because they are not working for me.

:Bedtime and sleeping arrangements- Duece sleeping in my room or bed most of the time. Jesse has taken to sleeping on the couch. And no one falls asleep anywhere near the 8:00 bedtime.

: Morning routine- Because I am not a morning person I own this one.... I will now be getting up before everyone else (Michael if you read this-Just work with me here it may take a day or two!)

:Afternoons and Homework time- This is also my fault...I am not good about making them come in have a snack and do homework so they are free for their afternoon activities.

:My calender- This one will most likely be the hardest for me because I can't say no to anything. If you ask me I will do almost anything. And sometimes I force little Cooper to go along for the ride when he would rather be at home playing not out volunteering with mommy. So if you were going to ask me to do something at the school, church or anywhere for that matter my new answer will be I need to consider it and pray about it and then get back to you....So get ready!

:My housework- Confession time...I hate housework NO I mean I really hate it! I do like a clean house I just hate doing all the work knowing my 3 little ones will mess it up in 2 seconds flat. But too bad now this is one area of my stay at homeness I need to get a handle on. No matter what it means.

:Time Management- Well who doesn't need improvement on this one???? I will let you know how is goes because I am not sure if I am able to better manage my time.

:Spending more time with my Heavenly Daddy- This is something I need to just plain old do more of. I don't spend enough time in prayer or study so I am looking to improve that!

Well this list could go on and on. But I will spare you the going ons and on! I guess when you get down to it this really is a resolution. I can not under any circumstances call it one or I will not stick to it! I hope that this year I will be able to be the Proverbs 31 women God wants me to be.

I wish all of my friends and family a Happy New Year...Full of blessing overflowing, revolutions, lots of happiness and more love than you can stand. Oh and if you are brave share what you are resolving for 2010!

New Year and New Spaces

With the New Year just days away I have decided my lovely little home is getting an overhaul. I am not sure how long this little project will take but I am on a mission.

Michael and I have resided here for almost 4 years. We love the neighborhood. It is perfect for children the street is not busy so they are able to ride scooters up to the church and play basketball and plus we have a wonderful fenced back yard. The house is a bit older but well with in our price range with 4 bedrooms so it is just what we need. I have never much cared for the fact that is lacks curb appeal and I don't personally find it at all inviting. So I am on a mission to make this house the best little house it can be. Plus I want to be proud of it again.

My list is long and projects will be completed as money allows. So I am starting with my bedroom the room that just needed TLC and didn't need any paint! I was given a new comforter which is just what this room needed...Now I am revamping my master bedroom into a master suite complete with beachy spa feel. Out with the dark burgundy and gold gone is the paisley. In are reds, brown, whites, oranges and turquoise my favorite. In this room there are some built-ins that I am going to re-organize and re-accessorise. I can't wait to see how it all turns out and I have already begun.

I will keep you posted as I do other rooms and areas. I am at this time unable to post any pictures due to my ancient computer. But as I get prints made I will be sure to scan them in and share with you all.

I know that you don't have to live in a palace to be proud of where you live and so goes me out to make myself and Michael proud. Next thing on my list is Duece's room which when I am done he will now be sharing with Cooper. So I am looking forward to this Duece has never really had his room done up so this will be alot of fun:)

Merry Christmas

"Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men whom his favor rests." Luke 2:10-14

Wishing all the peace, joy, and happiness your heart and home can hold. May Gods blessing overflow on each of you in the upcoming year. Merry Christmas to you all!

Out of the mouth of Duece

Yesterday Duece and I had the funniest conversation just before our dear friends the Poole's came over for a play date. I had to share it with you because if you know Duece you know this is how it is. This is how it went...

Jesse-Mom Duece hit Cooper.
Me-Duece way did you hit Cooper he is just a baby?
Duece-Mom he tore the back of my new Highlights magazine so I just hit him.
Me-Duece we do not hit Cooper he is a baby and he doesn't understand.
Duece-More whining..........Why did you ask God for another baby?
Me-Because I wanted another one...How about 4? Don't you want another baby?
Duece-Take it back we have enough babies take it back don't ask again!

I thought is was so funny. I know he loves Cooper but doesn't understand when Cooper doesn't get into trouble for something Duece would be in trouble for. Oh and before you all ask no we are not having another baby I just had to see what Duece would say. Guess Duece knows all about asking God for blessing but doesn't understand yet that everychild even the little brother who tore your magazine is a blessing!

Another Silent Night

Last year around this time on my normal contemporary Christan music station I heard this song and it was wonderful. It really made me wonder... Are we becoming a nation with no room for our King? My conclusion was yes. In today's times it is so accepted to push Jesus aside or to put your faith on the back burner or to just not be accept the most wonderful gift of all...God became flesh and eventually boar our sin in death so we wouldn't have to. Being a mother I sometimes find myself thinking about what is was like for God to send Jesus knowing what he would go through. I think it is so important to remember what this wondrous time of year is about. So I wanted to share this song with you. I like to give people something to "chew"on every now and then!

"While You Were Sleeping"
Oh little town of Bethlehem
Looks like another silent night
Above your deep and dreamless sleep
A giant star lights up the sky
And while you're lying in the dark
There shines an everlasting light
For the King has left His throne
And is sleeping in a manger tonight
Oh Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
For God became a man
And stepped into your world today
Oh Bethlehem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleepingWhile you were sleeping
Oh little town of Jerusalem
Looks like another silent night
The Father gave His only SonThe Way, the Truth, the Life had come
But there was no room for Him in the world He came to save
Jerusalem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
The Savior of the world is dying on your cross today
Jerusalem, you will go down in historyAs a city with no room for its King
While you were sleepingWhile you were sleeping
United States of AmericaLooks like another silent night
As we're sung to sleep by philosophiesThat save the trees and kill the children
And while we're lying in the dark
There's a shout heard 'cross the eastern sky
For the Bridegroom has returned
And has carried His bride away in the night
America, what will we miss while we are sleeping
Will Jesus come againAnd leave us slumbering where we lay
America, will we go down in historyAs a nation with no room for its King
Will we be sleepingWill we be sleeping
United States of AmericaLooks like another silent night

Happy Birthday Mom

Today is the birthday of my mom Lorie King who did 6 years ago from complications with Leukemia. I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little about this very special person with all of you. My Mom was a really kind, caring , loving, friendly (this list could go on and on) person and I am not just saying that!

Being that Jesse was the only grandchild my mom actually got to know I truly believe Jesse was sent here so "Nonnie" could experience grandchildren. Just before being hospitalized after a relapse I did share the joyous news that Michael and I were expecting Duece and she was so excited. She also had the privilege to host a shower for my sister Hillary before going into the hospital. Hillarys baby was born October 23 while my mother was in ICU and on a vent. She never actually met Taylor, Duece, Bella, Cooper or Rhys but I know she has a hand in their lives as a guardian angel. Aren't they so lucky. It is times like these that make me miss her so much. I wish she could see the beautiful young lady Jesse is becoming. I wish she could get one of Duece's wonderful snuggle hours or hold Cooper. I know my sister wishes the same for her three children (Taylor, Bella and Rhys).

She was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and so much more. To be just half the woman she was would be a true honor to me. I would almost give anything to have one last conversation with her. I would love to know if she was proud of who Hillary, Adam and myself have become. My life was truly blessed by being her daughter. If you knew her you know what a blessing she was to other people. I would like to remember her so sweet and kind not sick and hurting. If you knew her and would like to post a memory please feel free to do so in my comments.

*In Loving Memory of Lorie King- wife, mother, daughter, nonnie, sister, aunt, and friend to many. You are truly missed and loved. December 15, 1965-November 12, 2003

Blessed Be Your Name

Every now and then there is a praise song that brings me to my knees. For awhile now this has been one of my favorites. But this Saturday night during worship at our churches Saturday night Safe Harbor this one for some reason took on a little more meaning than it use to. I have always been able to grasp that our God gives and takes away. But have not always been able to praise his name during those times when he takes away. But with the birthday of my late mother drawing near it really filled me with a new understanding of how we do need to praise our Lord no matter what! I have like I said not always been good at that but now I really see the importance of it. I think it is also important to remember that no our God is not fair and if he was my sinful soul would have been doomed a long time ago. I want to share this song with you maybe it will touch you in a way never before.

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name
Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name
Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name
Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name
You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Recipes

I will now be posting recipes on Sundays. I have had several people ask me what kind of easy meals I make since we are so busy. So I decided to start sharing them with all of you. I would love to hear how they turn out for you and how your families liked them. If I am posting it here there is a good chance that it is on the upcoming weeks menu at the McClendon house. ENJOY!

Taco Casserole
(This is from the cookbook my church put together. It is fairly easy and my family really loves it. You could prep this during the day and pop it in the oven when you are ready.)

1 1/2 pounds ground beef 12 flour tortillas
1 med onion chopped 1 can Ro-Tel tomatoes
2 T. chili powder 1 can cream of chicken soup
1 tsp garlic powder 1/3 c. water
salt and pepper to taste 4 c. shredded mozzarella*

Brown ground beef and onions. Drain well. Add seasonings to meat mixture. Mix water, tomatoes, and soup. Grease a 9 x 13-inch pan. Line with 6 tortillas. Spoon all of meat mixture over tortillas and then add cheese. Top with tortillas. Pour on soup mixture. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 45 to 60 minutes. *May also use 1/2 mozzarella and 1/2 cheddar.

Oh Christmas Tree Oh Christmas Tree

Today we at the McClendon house decided to take our chances and finally put up a Christmas tree. We have been holding out considering we have a 16 month old and we were unsure how the tree would fair!

We have for several years been using a hand-me-down tree that my family used all of my childhood. It was bought my brothers first Christmas and he is now 21. With my mother gone on to be with her Heavenly Daddy I find it to be a true honor to use this tree. Believe it or not it is still in wonderful condition and even though it is not as big or as full as I might like I love using this tree. For me this tree is steeped in memories both happy and sad. I can remember dad sorting and fluffing ever branch one by one and putting it on the tree. I remember my mother preparing each ornament to be hung. I remember the candy garland and the star atop. I also remember the stories my mom told of each ornament how they all had a meaning. Today I am lucky enough to have one of those memory filled ornaments to go on my tree. It is a cloth one shaped as a boot with a kitten inside it. My mother sewed and stuffed several of these her first Christmas as a wife and mother because they couldn't afford any others. Putting that tree up in my home with my children made my heart hurt. What I would give for one more Christmas with her. I wish my children knew the joy she brought to every Christmas celebration. A true giver by nature this time of year was something amazing at our house. My mom a stay at home mom herself for most of my life almost always did with out at Christmas to make a way for us to have the most wonderful experience we could.

I wonder what my children will remember about today. Will they remember that I was so busy that we almost didn't get it done? Or that I had to go out in the middle of it and buy ornament hooks? I hope their memories with this tree are as sweet as mine. I hope that done mind our "little" tree and I hope they feel the same joy I do every time they see that tree.

Santa?

Ok so it is no big secret that for the past couple of years we have not be playing Santa at our house. You see when our oldest Jesse was in kindergarten she asked if he was real and so we told her the truth. We were relived and stopped playing Santa even though she had a younger brother. We felt alot better about them knowing that the gifts that had been painstakingly sought out and bought were from us. No way were we letting the fat guy in the red suit get all of the credit.

This was working wonderfully for us and nobody ever questioned it. Fast forward to this year my dear middle child Duece is now in kindergarten and now is questioning me "Mommy I think Santa is real...Why did you say he was not?" I am sure that Mrs. Ables kindergarten class is a buzz with talk of Santa and that dear Mrs. Ables even feeds a little into it. Since questioning me I have had many an interesting conversation with Duece. So now someone has suggested that he should do a test you know the kind ask Santa for something that he doesn't ask us for. I am thinking that this plan could go badly and Duece end up even more confused and upset. See that is just one more reason not to tell what I think is the biggest lie ever told. After a conversation or two of her own even Jesse now 9 as decided she might "start believing again." I am like ugh this is nuts lets just drop it and enjoy all the wonderful gifts your dear loved ones give you because they love and care for you so very much!

When I was a little girl my parents answered the age old question very simply "Anyone who loves you enough to think of you this time of year is your Santa!" Thanks mom and dad that was a wonderful way to explain it and I have tried that with my own children. For some reason they have decided to be little followers and not leaders.

Sometimes I feel like I have taken some of the magic out of Christmas. But I know it is still magical and memorable with or without Santa. I mean isn't it really about the fact that on this day we celebrate the greatest gift of all...This is the day that our Lord and Savior Jesus was born. I think that is the real true magic of Christmas he came to this earth became flesh and bore our sin in death... Now that is one magical gift if you ask me! And that is something amazing to believe in. ( That is a whole other blog in itself. )

A "Handmade" Christmas

Way back in August I decided I was going to make or sew all of the Christmas gifts Michael and I would be giving this year. Well my butt should have started sewing back in August. But all who know me know I am so busy with three kids and their activities that this is an undertaking I never should have taken. But I did...

I decided that a couple people on my list would be to hard to do this for so guess what? They are getting gift cards. We are not normally big gift carders but these are people who have everything and if they wanted or needed anything they would buy it. So gift cards it is for them.

I am making aprons for my children's teachers and will be having them monogrammed. This should be easy they aren't a huge sewing undertaking but finding time is oh so hard for me! I am also making ornaments for the ladies in the offices of my children's schools. Fleece blankets for my niece and older nephew. My younger nephew is getting something a little more special Aunt Hollie has sown him a Christmas John-John. Since he is 6 months old and I have never sown for him before I thought this was due.

This started as a way to help us save a little money. Since the wonderful economy has hit the McClendon Household rather hard! Well save money it has but for a busy person like myself it is not as easy as it first sounded. I know in the end these will be wonderful unique gifts but in the mean time I needed a break so I shared it with you!

Solider's Silent Night

****Today's post is dedicated to Alan McClendon and all troops active and non-active how have served and are serving this Christmas Season****

This morning as usual for this time of year the kids and I were listening to Christmas music on a local radio station. When an unusual Silent Night came on that really touch not only my heart but the hearts of my children and left us all in tears. You see my brother-in-law is serving our country now in Iraq. He is a special part of our family and the one how introduce Michael and I being he was my friend first. We all love and miss him dearly and are praying daily for his safe return. I was not able to put in a link but if you google "SOLIDERS SILENT NIGHT BY TED BERNDT" you can find it to actually listen to! It is wonderful.

This poem was written by Lance Corporal James M. Schmidt in 1986. It was recorded by Father Ted Berndt of Bread of Life Charismatic Episcopal Church in Dousman, Wisconsin, who was also a Marine and WWII Purple Heart recipient.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE,

IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,

AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,

NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,

ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,

A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,

I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE,

CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,

NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?

CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,

OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,

AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,

BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN’T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE,

ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,

I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY;

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,

“SANTA DON’T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,

MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.”

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,

I COULDN’T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL

AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,

THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,

WHISPERED, “CARRY ON SANTA, IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.

“MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

Happy Thankful

With good ole turkey day closing in on us I am taking this opportunity to share what I am thankful for. Last week I started this on Facebook but this plan was foiled by my dieing modem.

I am thankful for my Lord and Savior. He paid the ultimate price for my sins before I was even born. He is always here for me and I can see him in all areas of my life. He has carried Michael and I through many a fire.

I am thankful for my wonderful husband. Michael is an amazing father and my dearest friend. Together it seems we are able to get through just about anything. He has often called me his cheerleader and here lately he has become mine. I am enjoying falling in love with him over and over again and again.

I am thankful for three healthy children. I have been so blessed to be given the privilege to love, nurture and grow these wonderful beings. I will be the first to admit that there are days when being a mommy is hard and I wonder if this is really my life. But it is and I love it every minute of it with them in my life is wonderful.

I am thankful for wonderful friends namely Lindsey, Brandy, Ellen and Jennifer. I have learned that some friends are for real and some are not. But these are true ones that I have been blessed with. True friends are a precious jewel and hard to find. I treasure mine beyond measure.

I am thankful for family all the crazy bunch of them. We are all a little dysfunctional but in the end we have each others backs and would lay our lives down for the other. I think my mother would be a little sad about how distant we seem to be sometimes but in the end we are family and you know what they say blood is thicker than water. And this family is wonderful!

I know that these seem simple and I could go on but this is my short list and I just wanted to share.

My little list

Some people who are reading this blog know me really well and other not so much... If you know me you know my hubby says I am a list-a-holic. I make list on list on list it is my thing I don't know why I do it or why I started. But it seems like my whole life is a big long list. My little blue planner is full of lists this is one of my OCD traits. But I thought I would put those skills to good use and share a couple of my favorite things maybe they can help you or even give you a laugh.

1.Fisher Price Cradle Swing- Michael and I recommend it to all of our friends with babies, Cooper is still using his don't know what we will do when he out grows it.
2. Mr.Clean cleaner with Febreeze you can clean anything with it. I bought the spray bottle of it once and now when I run out buy the big bottle and dilute it for refills.
3. Scrubbing Bubbles and Magic Eraser- spray scrubbing bubble in shower/tub let sit about 10 min then just wipe with eraser and rinse try it you'll never go back to anything else.
4. My $7 planner from wal-mart it is the best.
5. Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer any scent
6. Southern lights candles.
7. My new translation of the Bible- The Message
8. The $5 car wash with free vac in town
9. Burt's Bee's
10. Ink pens and note pads (how else do you think I make all of those lists)

COMMENT ME WITH YOUR FAVORITE THINGS!

Carseat shopping...And Growing Pains (yes they go together)

So last week our youngest (Cooper) went for a check up. He was going for the six month once over. Actually considering he was 5 weeks early they check him more as a 4.5 or 5 month old and will continue to adjust like that until he is about 2. He checked out just fine not rolling over yet but hitting his mark everywhere else. He weighed in at 16 pounds 27 inches long. So my pediatrician said it was time to start shopping for a new car seat since our seat weight limit was 22 pounds. He recommended the Britax Marathon. And I almost just went ahead and bought it but decided to research and ask around first. And boy am I glad I did. I just didn't know how many convertible seats where out there and the price range is wide. I spent hours (yes, hours) looking at seat after seat on line and asked almost all of my friends with young ones what seats they had used and the pros and cons. I kept hearing the same thing about the Britax-it is a great seat with a high weight limit but most kids out grow it before they reach the weight limit. So i searched on and on. I was so surprised how many different kinds there was to choose from out there now. I found one I really like that could be re-facing, forward facing up to 40 lbs and then be a booster and I read alot of reviews and thought it was going to be the one for us until I read other reviews at another website. I realized it was not the one for us and the search continued. A couple of hours later I found "THE ONE". It is the True Fit by The First Years, I read all the reviews I could find on it and only found a couple "bad" ones about how it was hard to install re-facing in small cars (not a problem for us we have a van). So the decision was made we are getting it for Cooper and we can't wait. Only problem is new seat means he is growing up and I am not so sure I am ready for my little baby to grow up it is happening way to fast. I was not prepared for how fast this time was going to go by. I didn't remember the time passing so fast with the other two and this makes me a little sad! I know it is going to happen but where does the time go and the "growing pains" are worse for mommy then for baby. And the more I think about Cooper not being a baby anymore the more I think about how Jesse-Grace will be driving soon and Duece will be having girlfriends and how before we know it this will all be a blur of memories. I think that for now I am going to seize the day and enjoy this time because one day it will all be over. Ugh what's after all of that grandkids don't think I can even imagine my sweet little ones with little ones of their own.

"Fireproof"

"Just because something is fireproof doesn't mean wont get burned!"

Tonight we showed Fireproof at our church as a kick off the to book study Fireproofing your Marriage. Michael and I waited until tonight to watch it for the first time and it was amazing. Michael and I have a pretty good marriage but this movie really makes you examine how you treat each other. It was an awesome experience and I recommend it to any married or about to be married person out there! We can not wait to start the study. I will have to tell you I am thinking about buying the book (Love Dare) that they use in the movie and working it at the same time as doing the Fireproof study, I think it could strengthen any marriage. For more info on the movie or book visit...www.fireproofmymarriage.com it has alot of great info. I just wanted to share this with all my married friends it was a wonderful bonding experience.

They like Jesus and not the Church...

I AM NOT SHARING THESE THINGS TO BE JUDGED... I NORMALLY WOULD NOT DISCUSS THINGS OF THE HIGHLY RELIGIOUS NATURE BUT I FOUND THESE QUESTIONS TO BE INTERESTING!

Okay so many of my close friends know that my husband and I have been in a bible study for the past 5 weeks. We joined because the name "They like Jesus and not the Church" sounded so thought provoking to us! And so we joined not really knowing what we were in for and hoping it would be a blessing to us. Boy were we surprised when we realized that this study lead us to really examine our own views and closed mindedness.

I have always thought of us as young, hip, and open minded. But I have never been more wrong through this study I have learned I am alot more judgement then I ever knew. This study asks you to " step " out of the "Christan Bubble" and see how others view us and the church. The 6 week study included video clips and discussion on the following topics (really questions) and in this order....

1. The Danger of the Christan Bubble

2. Is the Church Negative, Judgmental, and Political

3. Does the Church Restrict and Oppress women

4. Is the Church Homophobic

5. Do Christan's Arrogantly Think All other Religions are wrong

6. Are Christan's fundamentalists who take the whole Bible Literally

Now I don't know about you but each one of those really got me thinking about how judgmental I really am. We only have one more week to go and I just thought I would share those questions with all my Christan friends. I think it we all should think about something... How Non-Christians see us Christians?

For anyone who is wondering how I answer these questions I will share shortened versions of the answers we discussed in our class. A short disclaimer to all these are my opinions and or how I see things not the churches views/answers. I know not everyone will agree with me or my opinions but... I wanted to share these 6 questions to provoke thought among all kinds of people we all need to be a little more sensitive to each others views and respect them. That said here I go (I am not going to rewrite each question I am only going to use its number from above.)

1. I think most Christians are in a bubble we don't really want to get out of. It is comfortable and we like it. We don't want to do anything that might upset other Christians and or Non-Christians. I think after this study I learned the "bubble" might be hindering me from doing God's will for me.

2. I think alot of Christians are negative, judgmental, and political yes. But I think we all are in alot of was all of the above. I know we are judgmental I have experienced judgement in the church. My only really answer to this that Jesus hung out with all kinds of people whores, drunks, tax collectors, all kinds of "bad" people. These are the people who need the "church" the most so why do we judge them. And as for being political I am not going there I don't think they even go together that is just my opinion.

3. I think some churches do restrict women, but in my church and our household I have never experienced this. I am sure others could share more on this topic.

4. Homophobic... Well this class was interesting! And the only thing we talked about that stood out and is worth sharing is that Jesus loves me and Jesus loves you. But I know there are verses in the Bible against it but aren't we suppose to love the person and not the behavior.

5. I think answering this question is tricky. I am open and I know there are other faiths and I believe we all have the right to believe what we want. My faith is in Jesus Christ. I take the verse from John pretty seriously... John 14:6 I am the way, the truth and the life. But, like I said everyone has the right to believe what they wish and that is okay with me.

6. Considering we have not gotten to this question in class yet I will share what I think. I do not take my Bible literally I don't think it was meant to be taken that way. Not to include the times have changed.

I hope that by sharing this it will provoke discussion so we can all be a little more understanding of people and their "culture" (Culture=way of life)

Thankful Thursday

I am so stealing this idea from another blog, but I so love it and wanted it to be a part of my blog! So I have decided to change it up a bit so it is more my own and I think I will do it every week. Since Thursday is the 4th day of the work week I think I will try to come up with 4 things I am thankful for. So here it goes...
1. I am thankful for my husband, even though neither one of us is perfect he is totally there for me and I know I am so blessed to have him.
2. I am thankful for my kids, they are a true pleasure!
3. I am thankful for my friends, they are a much bigger part of my life then I think any of them realize.
4. I am thankful for my home, I know it could be nicer (if I tried), could be cleaner (if I had willpower)...but it is mine and we have a place to live that is warm, big enough for us all, and it is full of love what more could I ask for!

Me Too!

Okay I have decided to let me inner follower come out... I am going to join the "blog world". I thought it would be a great way for friends and family to know what is going on in our lives. Plus I think it will be a wonderful creative outlet for me. I so enjoy reading my friends blogs and wanted to be a part of what seems to be alot of fun. I hope everyone will enjoy reading my post as much as I know I will enjoy writing them!
